PROJECT DETAILS
The southern part of Angola, like most of the Southern African region, is facing a devastating drought for the last 7 years that has left almost 600,000 on the brink of famine.
Ethnic minorities in particular are the most at risk. Thousands have become environmental refugees fleeing to Namibia in hope of some form of subsistence.
EVATELO, which means ‘mutual aid and solidarity ’ in the Nyaneka and Herero language, is run by Padre Jacinto Waccussanga together with several groups of women in a phased approach to emergency farming.
Over 2,5 hectares are initially available for the first group of 30 women in the Gambos area destined for emergency crop cultivation. The project entails placing three SF2 Future Pumps from Zambia that are solar powered and will become the main motor for the subsoil irrigation system. The irrigation system will feed emergency crop cultivation in a phased approach to help stabilize several communities.

TESTIMONIAL
“ Could you imagine the impact that a dam could bring to this community? With a dam, you could have millions of liters of water throughout the year. Even during the dry season. And thousands, and thousands of women, on both sides of the river, could irrigate their plots, could multiply food, could strike hunger, and have a significant impact in terms of food security. ”
— Padre Jacinto Waccussanga, Evatelo project manager
